On Julia Child at 100

When: Thu., Dec. 20, 7:30 p.m. 2012
Price: $5-12

If Julia Child were alive, she'd be asking you to run out to the grocery for more butter so she could bake something nice for her 100th birthday. We owe a lot to Julia—from our gastronomical haughtiness that makes us talk like menu copy to the vast inner smile we feel at the simple crunch of something perfectly fried. The Carolina Theatre helps us celebrate another joy we owe Julia—the joy of watching other people cook—by screening a celebration of her centenary from the 92nd Street Y in New York. Waxing all things Julia will be Judith Jones, vice president and senior editor at Alfred A. Knopf and editor of Child's Mastering the Art of French Cooking; Laura Shapiro, culinary historian and author of the definitive Child biography; Alex Prud'homme, Child's great-nephew and co-author of the memoir My Life in France; and Dana Polan, a cinema studies prof at NYU and author of Julia Child's The French Chef. Tickets to the 7:30 p.m. event run $5–$12. —Chris Vitiello
