Olga Kleiankina

When: Sun., Dec. 6, 3 p.m. 2015
Price: $12-$14
N.C. State piano professor Olga Kleiankina presents a recital featuring music by Chopin, Debussy and Scriabin to track the evolution of the prelude. In their hands, the prelude became an open, exploratory form. Chopin’s book of 24 preludes (one in each key) set the standard with its discursive asides and compact structures. A half-century later, Scriabin wrote his own set of 24, setting Chopin in Technicolor. He went on to write another 60 of increasing harmonic and conceptual density. Debussy’s 24 go in another direction entirely by offering a series of imagistic vignettes. —Dan Ruccia
