Old Quarter, Copper Into Steel

When: Sat., Aug. 3, 9 p.m. 2013
Price: $5
Raleigh quintet Old Quarter takes its name from a Texas venue immortalized by the landmark live album Townes Van Zandt recorded there in the 1970s. That's a high bar to set; on Live Oak, their debut four-song EP from 2012, only the opening track, "Wolves," rises above standard-fare alt-country and hints at something special. They're young, though, and "Starlight," a fresh track from a second EP due out in a few weeks, raises the stakes a bit, especially with help from American Aquarium pedal steel ace Whit Wright. Tennessee band Copper Into Steel opens. —Peter Blackstock
