Octopus Project, Le Weekend

When: Sun., Aug. 11, 9 p.m. 2013
Price: $9-11
Austin's The Octopus Project has been fusing EDM pulse and indie pop hooks for more than a decade now, and that veteran poise shows on the group's fifth album, Fever Forms. While continuing the band's increasingly experimental evolution, the album never abandons the accessible impulses that made them a mid-'00s buzz band. For all its motorik throbs and synth-psych expanse, there's also a clear connection to similarly kaleidoscopic anthem makers such as Animal Collective and Flaming Lips. Indeed, the predominantly instrumental record closes with "Sharpteeth," a sterling shot of Deerhoof dynamics and Lips whimsy. Le Weekend opens. —Bryan C. Reed
