Action/Adventure, SciFi/Fantasy

It's the year 2077 and Earth has been decimated by a nuclear war with alien invaders known as the Scavs. Maverick pilot Jack Harper (Tom Cruise) must defend Earth's remaining hydrogen processors against alien raiders. Or must he? The season's first sci-fi mind-bender, Oblivion is a big-league popcorn movie that delivers dazzling visuals, thundering sound and a generous array of action scenes. It's the kind of movie you want to see on the big screen if you're going to see it at all. I crunched the numbers and by my estimation, Oblivion is around 75 percent inspired sci-fi fun and 25 percent ridiculous Tom Cruise preening. That's a ratio I can live with. Also watch for several Top Gun in-jokes, which are presumably intentional.
