Object to Image

When: Nov. 18-Jan. 7 2012

If you've enjoyed the recent Hand+Eye show of handcrafted photography at Through This Lens, you'll want to see the work of this Durham photographer. Kevin Logghe has studied hand processes at the Photographers' Formulary and the Maine Photo Workshops, as well as Penland and Duke's Center for Documentary Studies. Work from two different series comprises a meditation on memory and vision. His "Memoria" series features platinum palladium prints, which infuse light with a silvery, almost solarized glow. "Selections From a Dutch Cabinet" explores the visual vocabulary of the kunstkammer, a Renaissance forerunner to the modern concept of the museum, in two- and three-dimensional settings. Far from merely celebrating obsolete photographic processes, Logghe puts them to use in his temporally disconcerting images. Friday's opening reception runs 6–9 p.m.; the show continues through Jan. 7. —Chris Vitiello
