Nutcracker | UNC Campus: Memorial Hall | Stage | Indy Week
This is a past event.

When: Dec. 3-4 2011

The Carolina Ballet's new production of E.T.A. Hoffmann's Nutcracker will play throughout the Triangle leading up to Christmas, starting with three performances at UNC. This production will be magical—literally so, as Rick Thomas, a veteran magician with more than a decade of performing in Vegas under his belt, has helped the ballet reconceive the key role of Herr Drosselmeyer as a magician who performs a variety of amazing illusions for the audience in the first act. There's also a variety of new scenery, though the classic score and choreography remain intact. If you want a magical evening of entertainment—and to wash out the taste of that monstrosity of a feature-film version that came out last year—head to the ballet, whether you're in Raleigh, Durham or Chapel Hill. Saturday's opening performances are at 2 and 8 p.m.; for full show dates and ticket prices, visit —Zack Smith
