locs are not something that needs to be accepted by others. it should be a personal journey focussing on patience, cultivation of self and your reality, that is why it is important to think about why you want to wear them. if society dictates your well-being, then this journey is not for you. if you have reservations about locs because of your financial and/or social situation, then locs are not for you.

main objective is to do what is comfortable for you and not just something to do as a fad.
