In a 2008 interview about his then-new play November, David Mamet denied that the protagonist was based on George W. Bush. So, to clarify, this is about a fictional incumbent president, Charles H.P. Smith (Ira David Wood III, who also directs) who has started a war in Iraq, is dealing with rock-bottom poll numbers and has illegally detained citizens. And he's dealing with a fairly unscrupulous scheme to save his own bacon. We're not going to comment on this, but if you want to, by all means attend Theatre in the Park's production, which begins tonight and continues through June 20. —Zack Smith
