North Mississippi Allstars, Alabama Shakes

When: Sun., Oct. 16, 9 p.m. 2011
Price: $16-18

For the past decade, the North Mississippi Allstars have produced some of the most incendiary, boogie-inducing blues-rock around. Raised on hill country blues, the Allstars take that tradition for a psychedelic spin and inject it with a hefty dose of Southern-flavored classic rock, an obvious influence from producer Jim Dickinson—the late father of two-thirds of the trio—who split his time between Memphis and Muscle Shoals. Their latest, Keys to the Kingdom, is a tribute to him that's a little less raucous then their usual efforts. In the opening slot is the promising young quartet Alabama Shakes, fronted by Brittany Howard, who belts out gritty, room-rattling vintage soul with similar Delta roots. —Spencer Griffith
