Re: “Hillsborough Street bike lanes are looking good. (!)

NCDOT will respect the city's preferences IF the city strongly advocates for them. City staff like to say that NCDOT will not "let" cities do certain things -- that USED to be true, but is no longer -- especially now that the agency is headed up by Secretary Conti. In any case, new leadership at NCDOT or no, Raleigh certainly swings enough weight in the statewide political setting to get its way with NCDOT -- if our leaders choose to. The only reason NCDOT even has jurisdiction over this street is because it is in the "state highway system" -- but if anyone is using Hillsborough Street to travel from Knightdale to Cary, they need to have their head examined. It's a city street if ever there was one, and ought to be treated as such.

Re: “Chapel Hill NIMBYs oppose new homeless shelter site

Words like yours haunt me:

We try to minimize consequences with accurate research and information, not with denial and by preying on generalizations. If the intent is to create hysteria and continue to breed suspicion, then we are certainly on target here. However, I wonder if accurate details would help instead of spin and skewed facts? I wonder if it makes sense to talk to the organization versus not listening and LEAVING the hearing before everyone has spoken?

Accurate research and information are exactly what the concerned citizens in North Chapel Hill want and are trying to get by asking the IFC for specific, concrete information. Instead of details were getting judgments about the judgments we are assumed to be making and assurances about how good and safe homeless people are. Of course: some are some arent just like the rest of us.

So, instead of judging our beliefs, our actions and whether or not we're listening(because we are -- even those, like me, who had to leave the meeting early after over two hours for children at home and a husband still at the meeting to represent our family), please listen to the fact-based concerns and issues were raising. Instead of judging, stop, look at the facts, and hold off on the assumptions; they are not doing any of us one bit of good.
