Noises Off

When: June 10-26 2011
Price: $16-22

Have you ever wondered what goes on backstage during a show? Playwright Michael Frayn brilliantly exposes the hijinks and love triangles that often can derail a production. This comedy within a comedy captures a touring troupe's particularly tasteless sex romp production of Nothing On in three acts: dress rehearsal, opening night and a performance toward the end of the run. The term "noises off" refers to sounds originating from offstage or backstage, and all the doors slamming, flubbed lines, wrong entrances and missing sardines make this one of the finest (and noisiest) contemporary pieces of comedic theater. Originally produced in London in 1982, Noises Off went on to win the Tony Award for best comedy in 1983. Theatre in the Park's production runs through June 26, with performances at 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and a 3 p.m. matinee today and other Sundays. —Christina Cass
