NOIR AT THE BAR
THURSDAY, AUG. 13, DURHAM
106 MAIN—With its third installment in little more than a year, Noir at the Bar, where independent "noir and dark fiction" authors from here and elsewhere showcase their devilish deeds in an aptly boozy setting, is starting to look like a Durham fixture rather than a cool sporadic event. This one features seven authors from across the country, many with a particularly Southern slant to their gritty pulp. They include Steve Weddle (Country Hardball), Greg Barth (Selena), S.A. Cosby (The Brotherhood of the Blade) and local ringleader Eryk Pruitt, whose latest Southern crime novel is Hashtag. In addition to reading, signing and selling books, some authors will bring prizes for a North Carolina-themed crime trivia contest. Even if it's clear and mild outside, in the shadowy and comfortable bar 106 Main, it'll be a dark and stormy night. 6:309:30 p.m., free, 106 E. Main St., Durham,
