Re: “N.C. Governor's School under pressure from anti-gay group

I am a GSW 05 alum, and I also attended the seminar "The New Gay Teenager". First and foremost that seminar did not in any way, shape, or form advocate homosexuality. I attended said seminar as a heterosexual individual and in no way felt threatened or coerced into any belief on the topic. It was a great seminar and simply provided students with different perspectives and outlooks on what it means to be homosexual. The fact that such an excellent seminar sparked so much hostility is an absolute outrage. Governor's School changed my life (for the better), giving me confidence and awareness of all sorts of various issues such as world poverty statistics, racism, definitions of art, and yes, homosexuality. It would be absolutely ridiculous to refrain from exposing the students to a certain issue just because some people feel threatened by that issue. Issues are issues because they are controversial and because not everybody agrees on them.
