Drama, Suspense/Thriller

This film from director Kelly Reichardt (Meek's Cutoff) showcases her talent for strong, quiet characterizations. Jesse Eisenberg stars as Josh, an Oregon farmhand consumed with the same nervous rage that defines 99 percent of the characters Eisenberg plays. Josh is embroiled in a plot to blow up a dam in an act of eco-terrorism with an enigmatic rich girl (Dakota Fanning) and an ex-Marine (Peter Sarsgaard). Even as the outlaws find themselves welded into a sort of family unit, which they have always lacked, their shared moment of violence has unintended consequences. They join the long list of Reichardt's characters that don't make it out on a joyous note, but they are memorable showcases for the actors.
