Re: “Durham County

I was very disappointed to see the Independent endorse Tracey Cline for DA. The Duke lacrosse case aside, Tracey Cline has a reputation in the Durham courthouse for handling cases with dishonesty and a lack of professionalism. Given that reputation, I am suspicious of her stated involvement in the Duke lacrosse case, but that case has nothing to do with my decision in this election. Injustices happen in Durham County on a daily basis without the benefit of a well-funded defense and national media attention, and I am more concerned about those. Others have pointed out the Brown case, but in the last few months, Mrs. Cline was also removed by District Attorney Saacks and Superior Court Judge Orlando Hudson from the case of Angel Richardson for, among other things, failing to disclose exculpatory evidence. In addition, Tracey Cline and Freda Black have the backing of prominent criminal defense firms in Durham (John Fitzpatrick, Butch Williams for Tracey, for example), and as other posters have pointed out, I think this is a cause for great concern.
