New Riders of the Purple Sage, Dubtown Cosmonauts

When: Thu., Oct. 1, 9 p.m. 2015
Price: $15-$18
Once upon a time, the New Riders of the Purple Sage were the Grateful Dead’s country cousins—and probably even bigger stoners than Jerry and company, really. A lifetime later, they’re one of the last bands standing from the golden age of West Coast hippiedom. They still sport one of the finest pedal steel players around in Buddy Cage, and their perennial underground vibe presents a crucial, country-rocking alternative to the over-earnestness of modern Americana. —Jim Allen
