New Kingston, Sun Dried Vibes, Down By Five

When: Thu., July 9, 9 p.m. 2015
Price: $10
It took three albums for Brooklyn’s New Kingston to titrate properly their mix of reggae groove, island toasting neo-R&B and touches of hip-hop. Formed by the three Panton brothers nine years ago, they broke through early this year with Kingston City, which topped Billboard’s reggae charts. The fraternal harmonies are tight, and the dancehall elements crackle, leaving their New Edition-pretensions in the rear. Jam-funk fuels the board-shorts stuff of Rock Hill’s Sun Dried Vibes. —Chris Parker
