Nels Cline & Norton Wisdom: Stained Radiance, Sam Amidon

When: Thu., March 26, 8 p.m. 2015
Price: $18-$24
Nels Cline might be known best for his role in Wilco, where he’s the guitarist charged with supplying dazzling leads and ruptures of chaotic noise. But that is only a relatively recent if well-paying addition to Cline’s extensive résumé, which includes decades of art-rock intricacy and improvisational experiments. In the fascinating project Stained Radiance, he and live-action painter Norton Wisdom interact, with Wisdom pushing paint across an illuminated frame and revising it in tandem with the extemporaneous music. Don’t expect the same scrambles from co-headliner Sam Amidon: One of the best young keepers of the American folk music flame, Amidon uses century-old structures as inspirations for elegant and intricate tunes. He is, however, an enthusiastic collaborator; here’s hoping Cline adds a few solos to Amidon’s graceful numbers. —Grayson Haver Currin
