NCSU Dance Company Concert

When: April 16-17, 8-9:30 p.m. 2015
Price: $5-$10

"Renascence" is a fairly terrifying poem by Edna St. Vincent Millay: a cautionary verse for those who would reach out to embrace all of creation. Robin Harris, choreographer and long-time head of the Dance program at N.C. State, has made a harrowing work based upon it: the solo forevermore, premiering in her company's annual spring concert. Harris also revisits her 1998 dance/documentary quartet, Dedicated, a soulful dustbowl work suggestive of Let Us Now Praise Famous Men. A woman's writings are erased—while she herself is written on—in guest choreographer Emily Wexler's controversial trio Navy Blue, and comedic choreographer Claire Porter's Decidedly Undecided takes on the indecisions of college students. Jack Arnold's duet Waking, Finding You Here excavates the intimacy between a man and a woman, and Tara Mullins examines a shift in the relationship between three daughters and an aging mother in And Still I Wait, Maybe for Me. 8 p.m., $5–$12, 2241 Dunn Ave., 919-515-1100, —Byron Woods
