True, but if he lies to his wife and family, what's to say he's not lying to us [again]? Probably much easier to lie to the public than family anyway...

I don't think that the amount of $$$ spent by the anti-transfer tax folks was the reason for its failure to pass. The tax is a horrible idea and really isn't fair to people who are being taxed on the equity they've built-up in their homes (the biggest, and often *only* major investment for most people). Also, the pro-tax proponents say that the money will go towards school and park construction, but how can we *really* be sure that's what it will be spent on? If the county commissioners could guarantee that the money raised from this tax would ALWAYS go to those purposes, I think the tax would have had a better chance of passing. But you can't really trust that the commission will spend the money for those purposes. Also, the state allowed counties to levy sales taxes as well as property and transfer taxes - why wasn't a sales tax an option on the ballot?
