NC Symphony: Copland Classics

When: Fri., Nov. 4, 8 p.m. and Sat., Nov. 5, 8 p.m. 2016
Price: $15-$75
A concert of works by American composers built around Aaron Copland’s Our Town, Billy the Kid, and Fanfare for the Common Man isn’t especially innovative, nor is including John Williams and Samuel Barber in the mix. These pieces are the gauzy shroud surrounding Missy Mazzoli’s recent orchestral arrangement of Sinfonia (for Orbiting Spheres), a medium-length work that combines celestial loops with hurdy-gurdy-esque drones and baroque ornamentations, getting its second performance ever. —Dan Ruccia
