NC Symphony Classical Series: Symphonie Fantastique

When: Fri., April 10, 12 & 8 p.m. and Sat., April 11, 8 p.m. 2015
Price: $28
For one of their final concerts of the season, the North Carolina Symphony offers a trio of francophone works. Olivier Messiaen’s Les Offrandes Oubliées, written when the composer was only 22, merges the burbling drama of The Sorcerer’s Apprentice with endlessly floating melodies. Next, concertmaster Brian Regan performs Henri Vieuxtemps’s flashy Violin Concerto no. 5. Rounding out the show is Berlioz’s Symphonie Fantastique, a fever dream of ever-shifting orchestral color. —Dan Ruccia
