NC STARS IN THE ROUND

SHAKORI HILLS, PITTSBORO

SATURDAY, AUG. 29

An annual fundraiser for the Shakori Hills Community Arts Center, a space dedicated to supporting the arts in Chatham County beyond Shakori Hill's biannual festival, NC Stars in the Round links an array of talented local songwriters on stage. They share a tune, pass the mic along and repeat. Chatham County Line's Dave Wilson is the sixth-annual benefit's most recognizable star, but the constellation around him is plenty bright, too. Steph Stewart complements Wilson's country and folk roots, while Brett Harris adds a precise pop sensibility to the mix. Formerly of the biting Brooklyn rock outfit Earl Greyhound, Kamara Thomas, now of Durham, favors more Americana-leaning fare. The 18-year-old Lakota John Locklear, meanwhile, delivers blues tunes that suggest he's three times his age. Mary Johnson Rockers closes the delightful circle. Bluesman Big Ron Hunter opens the show, and young roots outfit Dr. Bacon takes the stage after the circle disbands. 7 p.m., $12–$17, 1439 Henderson Tanyard Road, Pittsboro, 919-542-1746, www.shakorihills.org/events/nc-stars-in-the-round. —Allison Hussey
