N.C. CENTRAL HOMECOMING CONCERTS

DPAC, DURHAM | FRIDAY, OCT. 30–SUNDAY, NOV. 1

Gone are the days when N.C. Central's McDougald-McLendon Gymnasium sufficed as the venue for the school's homecoming concerts. Now DPAC's plush seats downtown await returning alumni. Still, those who remember the arena's heyday reminisce about 1994, the year that The Notorious B.I.G. brought his "Party & Bullshit" early Bad Boy Records campaign to campus. Two decades and millions of albums later, many of Biggie's former labelmates—Faith Evans, Total, Carl Thomas, Black Rob and Ma$e—perform in the same city that the late rap icon once roamed. The show serves as a flashback to the stars' Bad Boy days and a Cristal toast to N.C. Central's returning Puff Daddy-era pupils. While the spectacle might make it hard for the next night's headliner, Big Sean, by comparison, Sunday night's royal attraction, Mary J. Blige, will bookend the weekend's throwback status by bringing homecoming holleration to the fancy downtown dancery. At least Rapsody and Rich Homie Quan open for Big Sean on Saturday. For complete show times and ticket prices, see our music calendar on page 37. 123 Vivian St., Durham, 919-680-3787, www.dpacnc.com.Eric Tullis
