Re: “Sweepstakes gambling on the way out in NC?

As a sweepstakes owner, I can say its a great loss for everyone, we as owners have failed to regulate our own industry. There are so many people who enjoy the sweepstakes as relaxation to get away from the world for a while. There are many facts that people misinterpret concerning sweepstakes such as the previous post concerning the "less than 2% winning" a true sweepstakes pays back 92% of the sales associated with a sweepstakes to promote the sales of its products or services, how much do you think chain restaurants or the shoe industry spends on advertisement every year. Coke rewards programs, McDonald's Monopoly are no different. What are the chances of winning $20-$30 on a scratch off?

Drunk drivers kill more people each year than folks that enter sweepstakes games, yet we allow ABC stores to chamber the bullet that takes thousands of innocent lives each year. How much of the actual money in the educational lottery is spent on schools or helping the poor?
I can tell you that our local officials planned to spend the revenue generated by the sweepstakes in their budgets this year to help balance the local budget and make a positive impact in the community.

Ask the local sheriffs office about crimes committed at sweepstakes in Clemmons or Davie County areas? Less than 8 incidents the worst being loitering. This is is not about morals or our society would allow all the other things mentioned in this post. This is about the industry, software companies and state government's failure to take the time to regulate, appropriately tax and legitimize a business that's no different than the ones mentioned above. I am confident for every person who may come to a sweepstakes location in hopes of making ends meet there are 10 more just like them standing in line to pay for a lottery ticket or scratch off , the sweepstakes community dd not create this situation. I apologize in advance for offending anyone that was not my intention... The only winners here are the ones we have allowed our state government to call legal, our customers should have a voice and they will next election.
