National Watermelon Day

When: Fri., Aug. 2, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. 2013
Huzzah for National Watermelon Day! Enjoy "melon-themed programming" with frozen melon pops, diving for melons and more, plus American black bears, ring-tailed lemurs and barnyard animals. Visitors are encouraged to bring whole melons from home for the animals; anyone who brings a watermelon through Aug. 31 gets entered into a drawing for a behind-the-scenes bear experience. Incidentally, the actual National Watermelon Day is Aug. 3, according to the National Watermelon Association. (Google it.) Aug. 3 is also National Mustard Day and National Grab Some Nuts Day. We're not Googling that last one. —Zack Smith
