Nantucket's Heartbreakers Ball

When: Sat., Feb. 23, 7:30 p.m. 2013
Price: $15-18

Nantucket is celebrating the 35th anniversary of its eponymous debut on Epic Records. A regional favorite, Nantucket played horn-laden hard rock, as though Thin Lizzy crashed into Ducks Deluxe. The lyrics were pretty juvenile (their '79 second album was called Your Face or Mine), but they could rock. By the time they released their mid-'80s swan song, they'd disappeared into a watery pit of paper-thin pop drums, simpering synths and power balladry reminiscent of John Waite. In 2011, 27 years after their studio finale, they reunited for You Need a Ride to Raleigh, which features island-ish, jazzy soul rock blending Jimmy Buffett, Steely Dan and The Boss. Perhaps we'll get a mix at their second annual Heartbreaker's Ball? —Chris Parker
