Nancie McDermott and Southern Pies

When: Wed., Nov. 3, 7 p.m. 2010

Every week there are many book signings in the Triangle. But this one boasts something that truly sets it apart: pie. Yes, there will be a wide variety of pies to taste at this signing for the cookbook Southern Pies, which celebrates the South's unique way of recombining sugary products. Chapel Hill author Nancie McDermott is the prolific writer of such books as Southern Cakes and has procured top Southern bakers' recipes, including Sweet Tea Pie and New Orleans Creole Coconut Pie, for this edition. My teeth are rotting in anticipation. McDermott discusses and signs copies of her book starting at 7 p.m. She also visits Flyleaf Books Nov. 4 at 7 p.m. and Quail Ridge Books (which is hosting a pie contest) Nov. 6 at 3 p.m. —Zack Smith
