My Princess Bride

When: Jan. 31-Feb. 17 2013
Price: $17

One man in an Atari shirt acting out the plot for The Princess Bride? Is it Friday night at my house? I kid (sort of), but ex-Triangle actor Joe Brack's one-man take on William Goldman's "classic tale of true love and high adventure" combines his own life stories with the narrative of the show. This promises to function as a sly tribute to Goldman's original novel, in which Goldman interjected stories of "his" life into the fairytale narrative.

Incidentally, y'all know that Mandy Patinkin, who played Inigo Montoya in the 1987 film, shoots Homeland in Charlotte, right? It might be worth attending to see if he shows up in the audience for this, and if Brack can maintain his composure if he does. This is part of a national tour, presented by City Artistic Partnerships, that has already received a Helen Hayes Award recommendation for its Washington, D.C., performances. Shows are Thursdays–Saturdays at 8 p.m. through Feb. 17, with 2 p.m. matinees on Feb. 10 and Feb. 17. Tickets are $17; visit —Zack Smith
