Music in the Gardens series with American Aquarium (MOVED FROM DUKE GARDENS FOR WEATHER CONCERNS)

When: Wed., July 10, 7 p.m. 2013
Price: $10-12, free for 12 & under

Once upon a tour, it would have felt wrong to find the raucous roots-rockers of American Aquarium in a pristine garden. The catalog of the road-toughened band includes its fair share of scruffy, heartbroken tunes and barroom stompers. Over six albums, though, the group has evolved, not throwing out the scrappy anthems that got them here so much as making room for different shades of songs. Burn.Flicker.Die, the band's 2012 LP produced by Jason Isbell, sidles quieter moments of reflection next to quick-burning anthems. That welcome contrast should serve them as well in a garden as it does over a flat beer in a dark bar. —Ashley Melzer
