Murphey School Radio Show

When: Sat., Feb. 23, 3 & 7 p.m. 2013
Price: $25-100

If the sounds of Garrison Keillor's incomparably smooth voice are forever linked to your memories of Saturday evening car rides, you'll probably want to check out the Murphey School Radio Show, the third installment of a recorded-live presentation of music, comedy and literature modeled in the tradition of Prairie Home Companion and Grand Ole Opry. The variety show features local artists and performers including jazz musician John Brown, blues singer Jennifer Evans, pianist Robert Griffin, and writers Michael Parker and Elizabeth Hudson. All proceeds from the family-friendly production go to local nonprofits SEEDS and Book Harvest, both of which benefit youth in the Triangle. In addition to showcasing local talent, the show was designed to support and promote cooperation between organizations working to better our community. —Emma Miller
