Murder By Death, O'Death

When: Sun., March 8, 8:30 p.m. 2015
Price: $15-$17
Nearly 15 years on, Bloomington, Indiana’s Murder By Death still sounds as though soundtracking an unmade Western noir flick where the residents of a small border town wrestle with evil forces. (Actually, that’s exactly what 2003’s Who Will Survive and What Will Be Left of Them? is.) The quintet’s expanded their sonic reach, so that this year’s Big Dark Love works with R&B undertows and electronic accents. But they still play to their own strengths. To wit, singer Adam Turla remains a ringer for Johnny Cash, and Sarah Balliet’s cello lines still sparkle. With O’Death, a rowdy bluegrass band that doesn’t sound like it’s from Brooklyn. —Patrick Wall
