Re: “Five reasons why you shouldn't join the Brazil bandwagon in this World Cup

Yeah, Chris, I get that you live in Brazil, you've made that clear through your own crappy reporting. Thanks for updating your bonafides, though. Muito obrigada cara. I had expected a bit more from someone like you. Sadly, you end up being like qualquer outro gringo que vai pro Brasil. You get all uppity on behalf of the poor povo brasileiro, who could give two sh*ts about your hackneyed observations about our country. Vai pra merda. Hexacampe√£o!

Re: “Five reasons why you shouldn't join the Brazil bandwagon in this World Cup

Chris Gaffney, I think that you are missing the point of what JMM said about Brazilian football. If I'm not mistaken, his comment was not about World Cup, but about the sport more generally in the country. Players within the CBF are most definitely not majority foreign-born, the local press is vibrant and enthusiastic, and the population is certainly engaged, very engaged, with their local teams. Your comment smacks of ignorance. No doubt, the 2014 World Cup in Brazil will have it's fair share of issues, but certainly not of white elephant stadiums that won't be used. In fact, the real issue with the building of new stadiums and upgrading existing ones lies with the fact that local urban slums will likely be relocated to make room for the new lux stadiums.

I see nothing of the sanctimony and smugness of which you speak, but then again, I speak Portuguese so perhaps I can understand them with a bit more nuance than you are accustomed to. Dunga, despite his nickname, is far from being stupid, but he doesn't fit into the category of the sleek and polished national coach that perhaps is more pleasing to you.

Finally, this is the silliest article that I have read about World Cup and about Brazilian futebol; the writer's clear attempt at trolling is embarrassing. The Indy would do itself a favor not to allow such drivel.
