MS Benefit with Mandolin Orange, Magnolia Collective, The Dogwoods, Django Haskins

When: Fri., Nov. 30, 9 p.m. 2012
Price: $10-12

The intricate and emotional acoustic folk that Mandolin Orange debuted a couple years agowas so indebted to Bob Dylan that the incorporation of a full band and electric instruments always seemed inevitable. But unlike the amphetamine-fueled garage music that marked Dylan's first forays into accompaniment, the Carrboro duo added instrumentation in a way that only heightens the delicacy of its tunes and sentiments. Bass and drums chug like slow-speed trains as gauzy bits of organ and electric guitar contribute beauty without adding heft. Given plenty of room to breathe, the rustic harmonies of Andrew Marlin and Emily Frantz sparkle. The Magnolia Collective, The Dogwoods and Django Haskins open. Tickets for the 9 p.m. show are $10 in advance, $12 day of show; all proceeds go to the Eastern N.C. Multiple Sclerosis Society. —Jordan Lawrence
