Mount Eerie, Ghost to Falco, Hungry Cloud Darkening

When: Wed., Sept. 19, 9 p.m. 2012
Price: $5
"Through the Trees, Pt. 2" and "Pale Lights," two standout numbers from Washington State's Mount Eerie, neatly sum up the divergent expressions that the project unites. Respectively, they are the opening tracks from Clear Moon and Ocean Roar, the outstanding 2012 LP tandem from Phil Elverum's ongoing experimental vehicle. "Through the Trees" ambles dejectedly, undercut by ethereal noise and brittle acoustic guitar as Elverum explores the philosophical quandaries that linger in the background of everyday life. "Pale Lights" sparks these subtle frustrations into a wildfire, with nervy noise cutting through an overwhelming wash of black metal distortion. Neither folk nor metal, Mount Eerie is a fascinating journey into the space between. With Hungry Cloud Darkening and Ghost to Falco. —Jordan Lawrence
