Re: “N.C. Governor's School under pressure from anti-gay group

As a spouse and parent of Governor's School alumni, I was incensed at interference from an out-of-state right-wing group.I would oppose one coming from N.C., but cannot understand why DPI would cave to one from another state. The experiences that my husband and daughters had were positively life changing. To be challenged by out-of-the-box thinking is the goal of gifted education and of the Governor's School of the past. The subterfuge of DPI officials certainly gives the impression of unethical management practices.I imagine there are more details that aren't apparent, but this back-door action serves only to strengthen the case against DPI and the out-of-state influence. If the goal was to silence the teacher and eliminate her seminar, they may have done the opposite. Perhaps the students learned a valuable lesson from this situation:be prepared to defend your freedom of speech at all costs. These are the movers and shakers of the future.Hopefully, they may be even more passionate about the protection of ideas-radical or not.Our founding fathers were radical and so was the Jesus Christ many right-wingers hide behind.Would any of them be welcome to teach at N.C.Governor's School??
