Modern buildings are economically viable and architecturally significant. The traveling exhibit Modernism at Risk: Moderns Solutions for Saving Modern Landmarks emphasizes these points while also stressing designers' active roles in preserving modern buildings and encouraging viewers to care about these sites. Through 27 large-scale photographs by Andrew Moore (known for his revealing photography book Detroit Disassembled), the show focuses on five modernist landmarks, including Bauhaus director Hannes Meyer's 1934 ADGB Trade Union School in Germany, Paul Rudolph's 1958 Riverview High School in Florida and Marcel Breuer's 1954 Grosse Pointe Public Library in Michigan. North Carolina's rich modernist legacy is also part of this Raleigh stop: Six rarely seen models of our state's modernist landmarks are on display, along with a slideshow of endangered or demolished modernist houses. The exhibit runs through June 9 at the AIA's new venue at 14 E. Peace St. —Julie Thomson
