Re: “The moment when you realize your entire city is unaffordable

I recently got a job in downtown Durham in the public sector. Can I afford to live there? Nope. I moved back here five years ago and after a year of renting... my apartment complex raised my rent to the "market rate"... a 25% increase with absolutely no improvements to my place. Now I live somewhere far away from work that is run by a family and they don't do that. I don't know if it is so much the problem with Durham as with the entire state of NC. Where I came from that was illegal. Also, you did not have to pay property taxes on your vehicle every year where I used to live. Now DMV fees are going to increase by 20%... yay. Is it any wonder people can't afford to eat. God help me if I had a kid!
