MJ Sharp

When: Fri., July 15 2016
Update: The Friday July 15 artist talk has been postponed until a later date TBA. The residency itself still lasts for the month of July.

You likely know Durham's MJ Sharp for her long-exposure, low-light photography, where the camera's slow, unflinching eye teases out spectral details we'd otherwise miss. But however she shoots, Sharp herself has the same exacting gaze, as you can see in the archival photography project that anchors her residency at Power Plant Gallery. Working with thirty years' worth of photos of her family, she aims to "find compelling images of similar vantage points ... and combine them in such a way that they blend all the temporal realities portrayed in the pictures." Watch the project develop at this Third Friday reception, or visit Sharp in the gallery between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays during the month of July. —Brian Howe
