When: Sun., June 19, 9:30 p.m. 2011
Price: $4-6

For those tired of music that too strictly sticks to accepted definitions, Miracle Fortress is a splendid antidote. Montreal producer Graham Van Pelt combines elements of dubstep, hip-hop, R&B and noise into an exciting sound that's also incredibly smooth. Ethereal tones ooze up in a wash to begin, accumulating like dew on leaves. Bass lines thump with swagger underneath, but their impact is blunted, becoming slaps on the back in place of more common kicks to the gut. Warped, looping vocals flit in and out, lending a human touch to Van Pelt's lush expanses. Motor Skills and Oulipo fill out the 9:30 p.m. show. —Jordan Lawrence
