Miró: The Experience of Seeing

When: Sept. 14-Feb. 22 2015
Price: $12

THE NASHER MUSEUM OF ART—The great Spanish Catalan artist Joan Miró's Surrealist paintings strike the eye with palpable joy and unmistakable style, with their flat but creamy color fields and zany rhizomatic figures. In 1956, he took up a new studio on the island of Mallorca and began a fertile two-decade home stretch of career-summing painting, sculpture and printmaking. This traveling exhibition, for which the Nasher is the only East Coast venue, presents Miró works from that final twenty years. Watch for the INDY's review next week. In the meantime, take this one-hour guided tour to "find out why Miró was one of the greatest innovators of 20th-century art." If you miss it on Thursday, there's another at 2 p.m. on Sunday. 6 p.m., $4–$16, 2001 Campus Dr., 919-684-5135, www.nasher.duke.edu. —Brian Howe
