Mipso | Duke Campus: Sarah P Duke Gardens | Clubs & Concerts | Indy Week
This is a past event.

When: Wed., June 3, 7 p.m. 2015
Price: $5-$10, 12 and under free

Chapel Hill's Mipso is still young, but they've grown up a lot in the past year. Fiddler and singer Libby Rodenbough joined the onetime-trio full-time, and the group spent much of 2014 on the road, crossing the country during weeks-long tours. On their new EP, Faces, Mipso offer a subtle yet impressive shift in style. There are drums for the first time, yes, but mostly, Rodenbough's integration as a vocalist and songwriter adds greater intrigue to material that once relied on squeaky-clean strings. Mipso made a strong showing at MerleFest in April; expect them to do the same close to home. This show kicks off Duke Performances' annual Music in the Gardens series, which this year focuses on American roots music. 7 p.m., $5–$10 (free for those 12 & under), 420 Anderson St., Durham, 919-660-3356, www.dukeperformances.duke.edu. —Allison Hussey
