Midtown Dickens, Christy Smith, Hope for Agoldensummer

When: Sun., Oct. 24, 7 p.m. 2010
Price: $5

Tonight is a convocation of beautiful voices and quiet settings. As The Tender Fruit, Christy Smith made one of the year's somber but hopeful treasures. Recorded over a period of three years, and in and out of multiple relationships, her gently tweaked folk songs burn like torches, full of pain and potential. Athens' Hope for Agoldensummer puts the Southern soul of Page and Claire Campbell in rustic, ramshackle settings—call it impressionistic Americana. Durham's Midtown Dickens has been busy on the road, still supporting last year's Lanterns; expect ribald stories and jokes back at home. —Grayson Currin
