Re: “At UNC, Silent Sam romanticizes the Civil War and the old South

Silent Sam is Twentieth Century nonsense. North Carolina is unique in having the most regiments raised in defense of the union amongst the Confederate states after secession. North Carolina had a referendum on the subject of leaving the union. THe Secessionist proponents lost. In the next session of the legislature the vile traitor Governor Zebulon Vance had the legislature vote on secession again. It carried. He called up the state militia from the parts of the state that voted for secession and sent them into the mountains to garrison the mountain counties that voted against secession. This is what the book Cold Mountain reflects. THe rascist hatemonger elements of the piedmont and the coast have sold a bill of goods ever since. What we need is a monuement on campus for all the union white members of UNC who served in the Union Army ( and they damn well did ) and all the colored troops who served for the union ( although they weren't affiliate with the university ). It is estimated that one third of all union troops at the end of the war were colored. Equality must be recognized ! Truth and Justice should be accepted in our modern times.
