Action/Adventure, Comedy, SciFi/Fantasy

The third installment in the usually endurable sci-fi comedy franchise seems determined not to let logic, rationale or even its own mythology get in the way of giving audiences a pleasant time. In this one, Will Smith's affable alien patroller Agent J goes back in time to 1969 in order to prevent his ornery partner, Agent K (Tommy Lee Jones, who appears to be content barely being in the movie and picking up the paycheck), from being killed by a vengeful, time-hopping alien (Flight of the Conchords' Jermaine Clement). Once there, he joins forces with a younger, less ornery Agent K (Josh Brolin, doing a killer Tommy Lee Jones impression). With the movie bringing in that always-disorienting plot device known as time-travel, director Barry Sonnenfeld and company practically give themselves free rein to make baffling, blatantly far-fetched plot leaps—to the point where everything that happened in the previous two movies seem irrelevant—in order for the movie to be somewhat enjoyable. Sure, Men in Black 3 goes down easy, but everyone involved with this does know the whole damn series doesn't make a lick of sense now, right?
