So I actually caught this Tony winner for best musical last year when Fathom Events had a digital broadcast in movie theaters. It was ... well, I can see where it's a crowd-pleaser. This tale of a radio DJ in 1950s Memphis who brings rock 'n' roll to the masses, but doesn't quite grasp the idea that interracial love isn't something people would accept as easily, features plenty of fancy footwork, choreography and even some poignancy. But danged if I can remember more than one song, or even what the name of that song was. If you still like that old-time rock 'n' roll or a sentimental-but-undemanding story, then Memphis is the old-fashioned musical for you. The production opens Tuesday at 7:30 p.m., with performances continuing through Jan. 29. —Zack Smith
