Melissa Ferrick

When: Thu., Aug. 22, 8 p.m. 2013
Price: $16-18
One might rightly wonder if Melissa Ferrick will ever get her due. Two decades after her major-label debut, Massive Blur, she remains one of the country's most polished and evocative singer-songwriters. Her latest, The Truth Is, explores spare country-folk embellished with pedal steel, violin and cello. Ferrick's fierce emotionality feels particularly laser-focused on tracks such as the surrendering "Pity Song," the searing betrayal ode "Overboard" and the passionate surrender of "Wreck Me," with Paula Cole. —Chris Parker
