Medea Benjamin

When: Mon., Aug. 26, 7 p.m. 2013
Phone: 919-918-3424
Thanks to the flashy name she adopted in college and the riot grrrl tinge of the peace group she founded, Code Pink's Medea Benjamin carries a bit of a rock star air. But when we reflect on some of her most public acts of defiance, most would conclude that we wouldn't be willing to stand up to the likes of Donald Rumsfeld, George W. Bush, Condoleezza Rice and, earlier this year during a speech about drone strikes, Barack Obama. Still, much of what Benjamin does takes place far from the spotlight, in private homes and church meeting rooms. Monday, she's at Carol Woods in Chapel Hill; Tuesday, she's at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Raleigh at 7 p.m. —David Fellerath
