Matthew E. White, Phil Cook

When: Thu., May 7, 8 p.m. 2015
Price: $13-$15
With 2012’s Big Inner, Richmond’s Matthew E. White explored spirituality, camaraderie, love and loss. March’s Fresh Blood is a fitting, excellent follow-up—a little darker, a little sexier, more grown and self-assured. “Take Care My Baby” starts slowly but picks up like a train leaving the station. During “Vision,” White asserts, “Nobody in this world is better than us” before the chorus explodes with horns and harmonies. —Allison Hussey
